Actor Chord Overstreet has expressed his delight at news that he will be returning to Glee.
Fans were disappointed when it was leaked that Overstreet, who plays footballer Sam Evans on the show, would not be back for the third series of the popular programme.
However, now Glee creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed in a statement that the 22-year-old will in fact be returning to McKinley High after all:
“We love Chord and have always said that we wanted him back.
“So here’s an early Christmas present for all the Gleeks – Sam is coming back to McKinley, and just in time for sectionals!”
Chord himself has said he had “the best time” on Glee and “couldn’t be more excited” to be returning.
E! Online is reporting that Overstreet, who is currently dating Emma Roberts, could be back on screens as early as episode eight in the current series.
The move is a big turnaround for the actor, who last year turned down a recurring role in the show in order to record an album.
He told TVLine back in August:
“They offered me the chance to come back for a few episodes, but there was nothing guaranteed so I decided to dive into the music thing and that’s been my main priority the past two months.”
Chord’s character Sam left the show last season after his family moved away.
Glee airs Thursday nights exclusively on Sky1.
