Will Ferrell has delighted Anchorman fans worldwide by announcing that there will be a sequel to the hugely popular film.
Ferrell revealed the news during an appearance on the Conan O’Brien show on 28 March.
The actor was in character as the film’s lead, Ron Burgundy, when he made the announcement, saying:
“I actually have an announcement. I want to announce this to everyone here in the Americas, to our friends in Spain, Turkey and the UK – including England – that as of 0900 Mountain Time, Paramount Pictures and myself, Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel to Anchorman.
“It is official! There will be a sequel to Anchorman. There will be a sequel.”
Deadline is reporting that Adam McKay will return to direct and write the sequel, with Judd Apatow producing.
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy was released in 2004 and starred Ferrel alongside Christina Applegate as his co-anchor, Veronica Corningstone, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and Vince Vaughan.
Production is set to start on Anchorman 2 at the end of this year.
