Oscar-nominated Green Mile actor Michael Clark Duncan has passed away at the age of 54.
The former bodyguard died in a Los Angeles hospital on 3 September, after failing to recover from a heart attack he suffered back in July.
A representative spoke on behalf of Duncan’s fiancée, Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth:
“[Omarosa] is grateful for all of your prayers and asks for privacy at this time. Celebrations of his life, both private and public, will be announced at a later date.”
Duncan worked as a bodyguard to stars such as Will Smith, Jamie Foxx and LL Cool J before entering the spotlight himself.
He starred in Armageddon, Sin City, Planet of the Apes, Daredevil and was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of death row inmate, John Coffey in The Green Mile.
Tom Hanks, who starred alongside Duncan in the movie, today paid tribute to the actor:
“I am terribly saddened at the loss of Big Mike. He was the treasure we all discovered on the set of The Green Mile.
“He was a big love of man and his passing leaves us stunned.”
