Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong has reportedly entered a rehab programme for substance abuse, following a recent on-stage outburst while playing at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas.
Upon learning that he only had one minute left on stage, Armstrong, 40, shouted:
“I’m not Justin Bieber, you motherf**kers! You gotta be f**king joking.
“Let me tell you something. I’ve been around since 19-f**king-88. And you’re gonna give me one f**king minute? … You gotta be f**kin’ joking. I got one minute, one minute left. Now I got nothing left. Let me show you what one minute f**king means.”
He and his bandmates then smashed their guitars up and stormed off stage.
Early reports had suggested that promoters, Clear Channel pulled the plug on Green Day because previous performer, Usher, overran. This has since been denied by the band in a short statement posted on their website:
“Billie Joe is seeking treatment for substance abuse. We would like everyone to know that our set was not cut short by [promoters] Clear Channel and to apologise to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas.”
The band have also cancelled several upcoming promotional appearances.
