Adele said to be too upset to perform track
Singer Adele pulled the plug on a tribute to Amy Winehouse because she was too upset about her death, George Michael has revealed.
The soon-to-be new mum was due to join up with the Wham! star at a fundraiser to honour Amy, but told Michael she couldn’t do it.
George, who is currently promoting his new single, White Light, told Heart Breakfast’s Jamie Theakston:
“We communicated by email and initially what I wanted was for us to sing Love is a Losing Game by Amy Winehouse at the Elizabeth Taylor tribute I did at Covent Garden.
“She was basically telling me she couldn’t. She tried to put one of [Winehouse's] songs in her own set and she couldn’t even get through it.”
The 49-year-old believed that the bond the two singers shared became too overwhelming for 24-year-old Adele after Amy’s death at 27:
“I think they knew each other from the Brit School and they’re both musical goddesses, but the tragedy of it would’ve been too much for her.”
George hasn’t ruled out teaming up with the Someone Like You star in the future though, adding:
“I would love to do a track with her.
“I think she has no plans other than to have a baby right now and I think she wants to lay low for a while and gather herself and to then come back to us relatively soon with some more music and I’d love to be involved when that happens. She’s lovely.”
Adele recently revealed that she is expecting her first child with boyfiend Simon Konecki.
