Film Friday: Skyfall

After Bond’s appearance at the London 2012 opening ceremony last Friday, it seems very timely that the brand new trailer for Skyfall was released this week.

Unfortunately, the Queen doesn’t make an appearance this time – and I’m yet to decide if two Bond Girls make up for that omission – but it seems Skyfall is going to be yet another triumph for the Daniel Craig era.

The 2-minute-25-second-long preview begins with Bond plummeting to his ‘death’, shot by Bond Girl number one, Naomie Harris, under orders from Judi Dench’s M.

It seems 007 has a bit of fun being ‘dead’, drinking and trapping scorpions and the like, before resurrecting himself and his one-liners to deal with new villain, Silva, played by Javier Bardem.

From the trailer, we basically get everything you’d expect from a Bond film really, which isn’t a bad thing by a long shot. Patriotism, gadgets, an unnerving villain and Bond being, well Bond, with a lady in a shower.

Whatever you think, I’d suggest getting on board with Bond now, because as of October, 007 mania will have hit thanks to the spy reaching his 50th birthday. Many happy returns.

Skyfall is set to reach UK cinemas on 26 October 2012.

The film’s title was confirmed back in November, with the movie’s producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson praising its director, Sam Mendes:

“We’re so delighted to have Sam Mendes direct Skyfall and be working once again with Daniel Craig.

Jonah Hill rips into Kardashians

'Disgusting part of our culture'

Actor Jonah Hill is the latest star to have a pop at Kardashian family, calling their show Keeping up with the Kardashians a “super disgusting part of our culture”.

The 27-year-old Moneyball star told The Huffington Post:

“The truth of it is, I have friends who work in TV and the Kardashians get higher ratings than their TV shows. Shows that people actually work hard on – writing and creating and trying to tell stories.

“The fact that the Kardashians could be more popular than a show like Mad Men is disgusting.

“It’s a super disgusting part of our culture, but I still find it funny to make a joke about it.

However, he does admit that he sometimes finds himself watching the show, which follows the lives of sisters Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, saying:

‘Whenever I say I like reality TV, people write about it like they’re in shock.

“I can’t even understand it, so I watch it.

“I think it’s funny and I definitely enjoy it in a making-fun-of-it sort of way, but where does the line sort of end? When do I stop making fun of it and become an actual fan?”

The Superbad star’s comments come just weeks after Daniel Craig had his say, calling the family “f***ing idiot[s]” in an interview with GQ:

“Look at the Kardashians, they’re worth millions. I don’t think they were that badly off to begin with but now look at them.

“You see that and you think ‘what, you mean all I have to do is behave like a f***ing idiot on television and then you’ll pay me millions’.

“I’m not judging it – well, I am obviously.”
