Cheryl to sue the US X Factor

Cheryl Cole is suing the US X Factor for $2.3million, according to reports.

According to Deadline, the Girls Aloud and solo star will fight for the salary she is owed following her unceremonious axing from the reality show in 2011.

Cole, 29, apparently received $1.8m for the first series of the programme, but has now filed a complaint, asking for the further $2m she would have been paid for season two, plus living expenses and house and wardrobe costs.

Cheryl joined the American version of the X Factor in 2011 and appeared on the panel alongside Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid and Paula Abdul for three weeks, before being axed and replaced by Nicole Scherzinger.

In her recent autobiography, Cheryl: My Story, Cheryl revealed that she sent Cowell an expletive-laden text after learning of her dismissal, explaining:

“He didn’t even have the guts to phone or send a message warning me what was coming.

“I was furious with Simon for letting it happen like this. I believed we had a good friendship and I couldn’t understand why he just hadn’t been straight with me.”

The strongly-worded message reportedly read:

“F*** you, f*** Britain’s Got Talent, f*** the orange hair and purple outfit. F*** big hair. F*** the UK X Factor. F*** you all. I hate you. I understand you’re a businessman and what I’ve learned from this is that business means more to you than our friendship.”

Cheryl recently reunited with Girls Aloud for the band’s tenth anniversary. They will embark on their Girls Aloud Ten – The Hits tour from February 2013.

Drama as first X Factor act sent home

Carolynne received the lowest number of votes

Carolynne Poole has become the first act to be voted off this year’s X Factor, in a dramatic Sunday night results show.

Carolynne, 32, and Rylan Clark both received the lowest number of viewer votes during Heroes Week, putting them in the danger zone last night, but it was Poole who was ultimately sent packing.

They both performed once more for the judges in a sing-off, before the judges chose which of the acts to put through to next week’s show.

Both boys mentor Nicole Scherzinger and Gary Barlow, who looks after the Over 28s, predictably chose their own acts, while Tulisa opted to send Rylan home. However, Louis, after much deliberation, caused mass controversy by choosing to save Rylan and sending the decision to deadlock.

It was then left to host Dermot O’Leary to reveal which hopeful received the least amount of votes overall and would be sent home.

Reacting to the news, Carolynne’s mentor, Gary, stormed off stage, but returned later on for spin-off show the Xtra Factor to explain his annoyance, calling Louis’ decision an “absolute joke”.

In the series’ first live show, contestants performed Hero-themed songs, with Enrique Iglesias and Queen among the choices. Saturday night also saw Christopher Maloney join the finalists, after being voted in as this year’s wildcard entry.

The next live show will air on Saturday 13 October at 8pm on ITV1.

X Factor finalists revealed

The 12 acts through to this year’s X Factor live finals have been revealed, in a weekend of shows documenting the Judges Houses stage.

Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh had to whittle down their groups from six acts to just three, with a little help from their famous friends.

New judge Nicole invited R&B star NeYo to her Dubai base to help her choose which of her boys to take through, while Sharon Osbourne joined Louis in Las Vegas to judge the groups.

Girls mentor Tulisa called on rapper Tinie Tempah, who joined her in St Lucia, and Gary had a helping hand when it came to the Overs from former panelist Cheryl Cole, who was helicoptered into the grounds of a Northamptonshire stately home.

See who made the judges’ final cut below and catch the first live show this Saturday on ITV1.

Manchester venue for X Factor final

Final to be held outside London for the first time

This year’s X Factor final will be held in Manchester, show producers have confirmed.

It will be the first time the show’s climax has been staged outside of the Capital.

The first seven X Factor finals were held at Fountain Studios in Wembley, home of the regular live shows, however in 2011, show bosses chose to move the final to the larger Wembley Arena.

This year’s two-night final will now be held at Manchester Central Convention Complex, with around half of tickets set to be distributed to fans via the programme’s sponsor, TalkTalk.

There will be a slight change to the judging panel this season, with Nicole Scherzinger joining Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos and Louis Walsh in place of departing judge, Kelly Rowland.

Series eight of the X Factor begins on 18 August at 8pm on ITV1, with the final scheduled for December.

X Factor start date confirmed

X Factor returns for its ninth series

Series nine of the X Factor will begin on 18 August, it has been revealed.

The reality show, which spawned the likes of One Direction, Leona Lewis and JLS, will return to our screens between 8pm and 9.15pm on the Saturday night, in the middle of a Red or Black double bill.

This year, judges Louis Walsh, Tulisa Contostavlos and Gary Barlow will be joined on the panel by former singer Nicole Scherzinger, who replaces Kelly Rowland.

The first few episodes of the series, however, will feature a series of guest judges, including R.I.P. star Rita Ora, Spice Girl Geri Halliwell and singer, Anastasia.

Dermot O’Leary will return to host the show, accompanied by Caroline Flack and former X Factor contestant, Olly Murs for spin off, the Xtra Factor.

Catch the first episode of the new series on 18 August at 8pm on ITV1.

Nicole confirmed as X Factor judge

Nicole completes this year’s judging panel

Nicole Scherzinger has been confirmed as the fourth and final judge on this year’s X Factor panel.

ITV has announced that the former Pussycat Doll will join Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos and Louis Walsh to complete the line-up, replacing singer Kelly Rowland.

The Don’t Hold Your Breath singer, 33, said of her new venture:

“I’m so excited to join the UK X Factor family. It’s where I got my start, so it feels great to come full circle.

“I can’t wait to see what talent the UK has to offer and to help inspire and bring out the best in these artists.”

Reports had suggested that Scherzinger, who appeared as a judge on the US X Factor last year, was among the star names up for the job, but bosses seemed unsure on who would take up the extra place until last week.

Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, singer Anastasia, previous X Factor winner Leona Lewis and R.I.P. star Rita Ora all tried their hand at judging throughout the audition stages, but it seems Nicole’s experience worked in her favour.

Nicole will claim her seat on the panel from 18 June when the auditions tour rolls into Newcastle.

X Factor, now in its ninth series, will return to our screens later this year.

Britney, Demi join US X Factor panel

Britney Spears and Demi Lovato have signed up as judges for the X Factor USA, it has been confirmed.

The two singers will replace departing judges, Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul and sit alongside Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid for the second series of the reality show.

The news was revealed last night, with both Spears and the head of Cowell’s PR company, Ann-Marie Thomson, posting photographs of the new line-up via Twitter.

Speaking at the launch at the Fox Upfronts in New York, 30-year-old Spears said:

“I couldn’t be more excited to join the X Factor judging panel. I’m a huge fan of the show and now I get to be a part of the action. Simon and LA better watch out!”

Nineteen-year-old Lovato, who is best known for her roles in Disney’s Camp Rock and Sonny with a Chance, added:

“I’m so thrilled to join this legendary group of judges. To be able to spend each week with Simon, LA and Britney watching the best that America has to offer is truly a dream come true.”

Singer Maria Amaro won the first season of the US X Factor, bagging a $5million recording contract with SyCo and Sony.

Film Friday: MIB3 trailer released

The trailer for the highly-anticipated Men in Black film has finally been released.

The movie will star Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith as Agent K and Agent J and is set to follow on from 2002′s Men in Black II.

No official synopsis has been revealed yet, but it it widely believed that MIB3 will see Smith’s Agent J travel back in time to visit a young Agent K, played by Josh Brolin.

Emma Thompson will star as Agent O, with a younger version of her character played by Alive Eve.

Former Pussycat Doll and US X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger has also been spotted on set and is rumoured to be starring as Agent J’s other half.

MIB3 is due for release in May 2012.

First MIB3 posters revealed

The first posters for next summer’s Men in Black 3 have appeared online.

Film site Collider posted images of the promotional teaser posters first, after they were spotted at a local cinema.

The posters feature several small MIB3 logos which – when viewed from afar – make up the faces of the film’s stars, Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith.

Few details have emerged about the new sequel, however Total Film is reporting that it will mostly be set in 1969 and will see Smith’s Agent J taking a trip back in time to meet up with a young Agent K, played by Josh Brolin.

The film also reportedly features Nicole Scherzinger, Emma Thompson and Alice Eve.

Men in Black 3 is set for release on 25 May 2012.

Lewis confirms split from Nicole

Lewis confirms break-up

Lewis Hamilton has confirmed his split from singer Nicole Scherzinger.

Speaking for the first time since news broke of the couple’s break-up, the F1 driver told PA that he and Scherzinger will remain close:

“Yeah, we’re friends at least and we can move forward. It’s never easy going through tough times.

“It’s these kind of times that are sent to try you, and it’s about how you pull through them. I’ve my family who are helping, so I feel pretty good.

“I’ve many more days coming up with my family over Christmas and all that, so I’m really looking forward to it.

“I’m just trying to look forward now, and we’ve three good races coming up, so I’m just trying to keep my mind focused on business.”

Nicole, who is currently appearing as a judge on the US X Factor, and Lewis, 26, had been together for four years.

Reports are suggesting that the pair split because work commitments kept them apart for too long.
