Little Mix have been crowned winners of the X Factor 2011.
The group, mentored by N-Dubz singer Tulisa Contostavlos, beat former hairdresser Marcus Collins to become the first ever group to win the reality show.
Band member Jade Thirlwall said after the annoucement:
“We’re just so, so grateful and thankful to everyone who voted. All the X Factor team have been brilliant, we’re so grateful.”
With fellow bandmate Jesy adding:
“This is never going to sink in. Seriously, we cannot thank the public enough.”
Simon Cowell also gave his opinion on the girls’ win, posting on Twitter:
“Congratulations to @LIttleMixOffic. And Paula as you can see, groups can win this show!
“I was really hoping a group would win this year. @OfficialTulisa has done a great job. These girls could be stars.”
The girls put in winning performances over the two-day final, with versions of Silent Night, Don’t Let Go and a cover of Damien Rice’s Cannonball, which will be their debut single.
They will now go up against the likes of Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey, Michael Buble, Nirvana and the Military Wives Choir in the race for Christmas Number 1.
It has also been reported today that Perrie, Leigh-Anne, Jesy and Jade are set to make a massive £8million from endorsements, sponsorships and a £150,000 advance from their £1million SiCo record contract.
