Rihanna debuts album artwork

Rihanna’s new album is out next month

Rihanna has revealed the title and artwork for her new album exclusively on Twitter.

The Bajan superstar posted an image of the new cover art via Instagram on 11 October, followed by a tweet announcing the name:

“My NEW album “UNAPOLOGETIC” will be released on NOVEMBER 19th WORLDWIDE.”

Unapologetic topped the worldwide trending topic list on the social networking site shortly after Rihanna shared the news, prompting the following response from the Diamonds singer:

“We got our guns in the m*******ckin air!!!”

The album cover image features a topless Rih-Rih with her modesty covered by black and white graffiti scrawls.

Some of the words adorning the singer include the record’s title, ‘unapologetic’, as well as ‘side effects’, ‘faith’, ‘victory’ and ‘censored’; which could be a possible clue to the album’s tracklisting or a response to the media interest which surrounds her.

Unapologetic will be 24-year-old Rihanna’s seventh studio album.

The record will feature her latest single, Diamonds, which made Number 1 on the UK Top 40 last Sunday.

Rihanna axed as face of Nivea

Rihanna not right for the brand

Popstar Rihanna has been dropped as the face of Nivea.

Newly-appointed head of Nivea’s parent company Bleisdorft, Stefan Heidenreich, told the Daily Mail that the singer isn’t an appropriate choice to promote the family-friendly brand:

“The advert starring Rihanna was a no-go. I do not understand how Nivea can be brought into association with Rihanna.

“Nivea is a company which stands for trust, family and reliability.”

The 24-year-old teamed up with the skincare brand for a series of campaigns last year, starring in adverts and lending her track, California King Bed as a backdrop for the commercials.

The Bajan star has come under fire of late for her increasingly controversial behaviour, teaming up with violent ex Chris Brown for a remix track and being pictured with a suspicious white powder at Coachella Festival.

It is unlikely that this news will be a set-back for Rhi-Rhi however, as she recently announced plans to collaborate with River Island on a new fashion collection.

She is also in the middle of filming her Sky Living series, Styled to Rock, alongside Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts and designer Henry Holland.

Chris Brown, Drake in bar brawl

Brown and Drake have both been involved with Rihanna

US rap stars Chris Brown and Drake have allegedly been involved in a fight at a New York bar over pop princess, Rihanna.

The police are currently investigating the reports, which suggest that the two men and their entourages clashed over Drake’s alleged involvement with Brown’s ex girlfriend.

At least five people were injured during the fight at the W.i.P (Work in Progress) club in the SoHo area of Manhattan.

A 25-year-old man suffered a serious head wound, while two other men and two women were treated for minor cuts.

Brown uploaded a picture to his Twitter account shortly after the event, showing his apparent war wounds, however the singer removed it along with other posts about the incident.

A spokesperson for Chris, 23, who is still on supervised probation after attacking Rihanna in 2009, said the star and his friends were the victims of a “brutal attack”, continuing:

“Chris and his party are co-operating with NY authorities who are pursuing this incident further.”

A representative for Drake, who worked with Rihanna on single Take Care, said:

“He did not engage in any activity which resulted in injury to person or damage to property.

“He was on his way out of the club when the altercation began.”

Police are currently talking to witnesses and looking at surveillance footage. No arrests have been made.

Rihanna, Nicola Roberts for new show

Rihanna and Nicola team up for Sky Living

Rihanna and Nicola Roberts have joined forces to front a new fashion television show on Sky Living.

The duo are teaming up to find the next big Brit designer, with Rihanna also producing the series.

The We Found Love singer said she was “excited” about following the contestants’ journey, with Nicola adding:

“I am so excited to be working with Rihanna on finding a new British up and coming designer. I was so flattered when she asked me to work with her on this show.

“I’m looking for someone who can think outside the box while using their imagination, someone who isn’t going to give up at the first hurdle and ultimately someone who can’t be undiscovered anymore.”

Over ten weeks, the unknown designers will be challenged by Rihanna and Nicola to create outfits for a string of musicians and celebrities.

The final challenge – and ultimate task for the winner – will be to design a unique stage outfit for Rihanna’s Wireless performance in Hyde Park in July 2012.

The show is set to start on Sky Living in summer 2012.

Beyoncé gives birth

Bey welcomes first child, Blue Ivy

After weeks of speculation, it has been confirmed that Beyoncé has given birth to her first child.

The R&B superstar and her husband, rapper Jay-Z, welcomed a little girl called Blue Ivy on 7 January.

According to reports, the 30-year-old first-time-mum gave birth by Caesarean section at Lenox Hill hospital in New York, with Jay – real name Shawn Carter – by her side.

A host of celebrities, including Rihanna and Gwyneth Paltrow, have been posting their congratulations to the couple via Twitter.

Paltrow, a close friend of the pair, tweeted:

“Welcome to the world Blue! We love you already.”

While Rihanna, who is signed to 42-year-old Carter’s Rocafella label, wrote:

“Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih.”

Knowles’ younger sister Solange also took to her Twitter account, posting:

“The most beautiful girl in the world.”

Rumours started circulating about the couple and their as yet unborn child as soon as Beyoncé announced she was expecting.

There were reports of the star using a fake baby bump to disguise her due date and some even suggested she was using a surrogate.

Rumours reached fever pitch, however, on 30 December 2011, when reports surfaced that Beyoncé had given birth to a daughter called Tiana May Carter, following reports that staff at a private hospital in New York had been told to prepare for a V.I.P. arrival.

A famously private couple, Beyoncé and Jay-Z married back in 2008, with Bey announcing her pregnancy live on stage at the MTV Video Music Awards back in August 2011.

Editor resigns over Rihanna race slur

The editor of a Dutch fashion magazine – who faced criticism after printing a racial slur about popstar Rihanna – has resigned.

Eva Hoeke of Jackie magazine initially defended the article, which wrongly stated that the singer was from Jamaica and used offensive language to describe her.

The story made reference to 23-year-old Rihanna’s “ghetto ass” and called her a “n***abitch”.

Bajan star Rihanna reacted angrily to the story, personally criticising Hoeke and the magazine via her Twitter profile:

“Hope u can read english, because your magazine is a poor representation of the evolution of human rights! I find you disrespectful and rather desperate!![sic]

“You put two words together, with the intent of abasement, that made no sense … ‘N***a Bitch’?!….Well with all respect, on behalf of my race, here are my two words for you … F*** YOU!!!”

Hoeke has now apologised via the magazine’s Facebook page, posting:

“I realise that my first reaction through Twitter, in which I indicated that it was a joke, has been an incomplete misrepresentation of what me, and also the author of the article, meant.

“I should have counted to 10 before taking unsubtle stands through social media channels.

“Through this my credibility has been hurt, and that neither fits the role of an editor-in-chief, nor Jackie Magazine. “

Hoeke had previously defended the story as a “bad joke” on Twitter, saying there was “no racist motive”.

Jessie J triumphs at MOBOs

Four awards for Jessie

Jessie J has dominated this year’s MOBO Awards, taking home prizes in four out of the five categories in which she was nominated.

The Who’s Laughing Now singer won Best UK Act, Best Newcomer, Best Album for Who You Are and Best Song for her debut hit, Do it Like a Dude.

Jessie only missed out on the prize for Best Video, which was awarded to Tinchy Stryder and Dappy for their song, Spaceship.

The 24-year-old star, born Jessica Cornish, thanked her fans after picking up the award for Best Album, saying:

“I just want to say the biggest thank you to my fans because I watched this last year by myself in my living room and no-one knew who I was.”

She was also praised by the founder of the awards Kanya King for her performance which opened the show.

Adele was also among the winners on the night, picking up the Best R&B/Soul accolade at the event, which was held in Glasgow.

Tinie Tempah won the Best Hip Hop prize and Bajan singer Rihanna came away with the Best International Star award.

The night also featured a tribute to the late Amy Winehouse led by her goddaughter, Dionne Bromfield.

This year’s MOBO Awards were hosted by Jason Derülo and Alesh Dixon and took place at Glasgow’s SECC.

Rihanna told off by farmer

R&B superstar Rihanna has been told to cover herself up by a farmer in Bangor, County Down.

Alan Graham let the best-selling pop star film parts of her new video on his property, but got a bit of a shock as he went to fetch his tractor.

When he caught a glimpse of the Rude Boy singer stripping down for the video to her latest single, We Found Love, Graham went over to intervene:

“I thought it was inappropriate. I requested them to stop and they did,” he told the BBC.

“I had my conversation with Rihanna and I hope she understands where I’m coming from. We shook hands.

“From my point of view, it was my land, I have an ethos and I felt it was inappropriate.”

The farmer admitted that he didn’t know who the 23-year-old Bajan singer was when he received a phonecall requesting the use of his land for a pop video.

“I didn’t know who was coming. If the name ‘Rihanna’ had been mentioned, well, no disrespect but it wouldn’t have meant anything.”

Rihanna and her entourage came to film in the Bangor field on Monday, attracting hundreds of people who gathered by the roadside to watch her impromptu performance.

The star’s new single is a collaboration with dance music producer Calvin Harris. Her new album will be in stores from 21 November.

Rihanna, Coldplay duet confirmed

Star will sing on Princess of China

It may have taken him a while to pluck up the courage to ask her, but Coldplay rocker Chris Martin has confirmed that Rihanna will feature on the band’s new album.

The Viva La Vida singer, 34, explained to The Sun that while he had bagged the Bajan superstar as a guest vocalist on the new record, asking her still managed to reduce him to a “Hugh Grant-like” rom-com character:

“The album is designed as a whole piece. It has boy and girl lead characters and top of our list for the girl part was Rihanna… but it took a while to pluck up the courage to ask her.

“We did a show in Las Vegas and I met her and said, ‘Do you think there’s any chance?’ I was very Hugh Grant-like and spluttering about it.

“She has such an amazing voice and it’s so different to mine. When the vocal happened I thought ‘Wow, you sound different’ but I think that’s also because she was singing a different song to what we are used to hearing from her and it is written by a bloke from Devon.”

Rihanna will appear a track titled Princess of China, featured on their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, which is set for release on 24 October.
