Daniel Day-Lewis scores Best Actor nod for Lincoln

This year’s BAFTA film nominations have been announced, with Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, Les Misérables and Life of Pi all dominating the list in 2013.

Lincoln, which stars Daniel Day-Lewis in the title role, leads the way with 10 nods, followed by Les Misérables and Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, which each scored nine nominations.

The biopic of the 16th US president is featured in the Best Film category at the annual film awards, as well as receiving nods for Best Actor and Best Actress, for Day-Lewis and Sally Field respectively.

Completing the Best Actor line-up are Ben Affleck, recognised for his role in Argo, Sliver Linings Playbook star Bradley Cooper, Hugh Jackman, who appears in this year’s film version of Les Misérables and The Master star Joaquin Phoenix.

The 2013 BAFTAs – hosted by Stephen Fry – will be broadcast on BBC One from London’s Royal Opera House on Sunday 10 February.

Adele ‘ecstatic’ about new arrival

Adele welcomes a baby boy

Adele has given birth to a baby boy, according to reports.

The Skyfall singer apparently welcomed her first child with other half Simon Konecki on 19 October, with a source claiming that the pair are “ecstatic at their new arrival”.

The 24-year-old is yet to confirm the news, with her spokesperson quoted as saying:

“We are not releasing a statement at this time. No comment.”

Adele announced back in June that she was expecting her first child, revealing the news on her official blog:

“I’m delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together.

“I wanted you to hear the news direct from me, obviously we’re over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always, Adele xx”

The Rolling in the Deep star got together with Simon last summer, with the couple reportedly moving in together earlier this year.

The baby is the couple’s first together. Konecki has a five-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

The singer announced the news on 1 October, opting to post a picture of the track’s score via her Twitter account.

A countdown clock on the star’s official website also revealed that the song will premiere in full at 00.07am (UK time) on 5 October.

Film Friday: Skyfall

After Bond’s appearance at the London 2012 opening ceremony last Friday, it seems very timely that the brand new trailer for Skyfall was released this week.

Unfortunately, the Queen doesn’t make an appearance this time – and I’m yet to decide if two Bond Girls make up for that omission – but it seems Skyfall is going to be yet another triumph for the Daniel Craig era.

The 2-minute-25-second-long preview begins with Bond plummeting to his ‘death’, shot by Bond Girl number one, Naomie Harris, under orders from Judi Dench’s M.

It seems 007 has a bit of fun being ‘dead’, drinking and trapping scorpions and the like, before resurrecting himself and his one-liners to deal with new villain, Silva, played by Javier Bardem.

From the trailer, we basically get everything you’d expect from a Bond film really, which isn’t a bad thing by a long shot. Patriotism, gadgets, an unnerving villain and Bond being, well Bond, with a lady in a shower.

Whatever you think, I’d suggest getting on board with Bond now, because as of October, 007 mania will have hit thanks to the spy reaching his 50th birthday. Many happy returns.

Skyfall is set to reach UK cinemas on 26 October 2012.

The latest 007 adventure will star Daniel Craig for the third time, alongside leading ladies Berenice Marlohe and Naomie Harris.

Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes will direct the film.

The film will also feature MI6 under attack, with 007 having to track down and destroy the threat, regardless of how personal the cost.
